Euphonium

Álvaro Silva has been a Geneva-based artist since 2018, and his work focuses on promoting the euphonium, both through the creation, transcription, and commissioning of new pieces for his instrument, as well as through solo recitals and performances with various original ensembles. He was born on July 1, 1994, in Ovar, and began his musical studies at age 9 at the Escola da Banda Filarmónica Ovarense, studying trombone under teachers Rui Bandeira, António Covas, and José Azevedo. In 2007, he joined the Academia de Música do Orfeão de Ovar, studying under professors Daniel Dias and Alcides Paiva, and in 2010 he was admitted to the Conservatório de Música do Porto, in the class of professor Avelino Ramos, where in 2014 he completed his Secondary Artistic Education in the Secondary Instrument Course with a grade of 19 out of 20. In 2014, he was admitted to the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo (ESMAE) for a Bachelor's degree in Musical Performance under professors Sérgio Carolino and Ricardo Antão, graduating in 2017 with the maximum grade of 20 out of 20. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Music Education at ESMAE and is a member of the Portuguese Tuba Ensemble "How Low Can You Go?", the Wind Orchestra of the A'Lord Foundation, the Associação Recreativa e Musical Amigos da Branca, the group Intradições, and the group Fado A'Lado.
