André Conde
Trombone

André Conde was born in Évora, where he began his musical studies at the age of five at the Academia de Música Eborense. He studied Trombone at the Lisbon National Conservatory Music School, where he completed his secondary education in the Integrated Music Program.
In 2006, he was selected for the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra.
In 2009, he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Music – Trombone at the National Academy of Orchestra, studying with Reinaldo Guerreiro.
A year earlier (2008), he was selected, through audition, to join the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. With this orchestra, he participated in five European tours, working under the direction of distinguished conductors.
In September 2009, he was admitted to the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich University of the Arts) for a Master’s degree in Orchestral Performance, in the class of David Bruchez, supported by a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He graduated with distinction in 2011.
During 2010, he collaborated regularly with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and, in the same year, was admitted through audition to the Zurich Opera Academy. In the 2012/2013 season, he joined the Zurich Opera Orchestra as Second Trombone and Assistant Principal Trombone.
In 2014, he completed a second Master’s degree in Specialized Performance – Soloist, also at the Zurich University of the Arts, again under the guidance of David Bruchez. As part of this program, he was invited to perform as a soloist with orchestra in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic.
As an instrumentalist, he has also trained in early and contemporary music at the Zurich University of the Arts, as well as in jazz at the Hot Clube de Portugal Jazz School and at the same university in Zurich.
He has attended numerous masterclasses with internationally renowned trombonists such as Jacques Mauger, Jean Raffard, Dennis Wick, Charles Vernon, Zoltán Kiss, Jörgen van Rijen, David Taylor, Nitzan Haroz, Jay Friedman, and Joseph Alessi.
He has performed as a guest trombonist with several national and international orchestras, including the Zurich Opera Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, Porto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música, Sinfonietta de Lisboa, and Orquestra Clássica do Sul, among others. He was a member of the Gulbenkian Orchestra during the 2015–2016 season as Principal Trombone.
He is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Évora in Music and Musicology – Performance specialization, and teaches trombone at the Conservatório de Artes Canto Firme de Tomar, the Lisbon Metropolitan Conservatory, and the University of Évora.
