The group “BaixaRia,” an ensemble of euphoniums and tubas originally formed within the academic setting of the University of Aveiro, quickly evolved into an independent ensemble, establishing itself as a chamber music group dedicated to developing its projects both within and outside the academic community.
The ensemble has a flexible lineup, always composed of young musicians who share the desire and ambition to make music together. In terms of performances, the group has already performed in various settings, specifically at the Orlando Oliveira Auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music in Aveiro and at the Alba Cinema-Theater. Additionally, the group has participated in university events, giving performances at the CCCI Auditorium and the DeCA Auditorium in the Department of Communication and Art.
With a strong desire to explore the repertoire written for this type of ensemble, the group will also premiere a work commissioned from composer Francisco Ribeiro, titled “Dois lados d’uma moeda.” The close collaboration with composers was also evident in the work on “Quarteto para Pés de Chumbo,” in partnership with composer Nelson Jesus. In addition to encouraging collaboration between performance and composition students at the University of Aveiro, the group also fosters cooperation between institutions, as evidenced by joint rehearsals with the euphonium and tuba classes at the Higher School of Music, Arts, and Performing Arts (ESMAE), with whom they held rehearsals aimed at strengthening the relationship between the institutions and providing everyone with the opportunity to participate in a larger ensemble.
In a constant quest for pedagogical and professional development, the Ensemble’s presence is not limited to concerts, extending to participation in various masterclasses (with internationally renowned figures such as Ricardo Carvalhoso, Sérgio Carolino, and Daniel Perantoni), as well as participation in the NEMu 2023 Chamber Music Competition, where it became a finalist, highlighting the group’s professionalism and determination on the music scene.
Participated in the 2024 edition as “Young Talents Ensemble”
