Diogo Silva
Euphonium
Diogo Silva began his musical studies in 2008 at the Banda Musical de Melres school. In 2012, he was admitted to the Academia de Música de Costa Cabral, where he completed the Professional Wind and Percussion Instrumentalist Course in 2017, with Professor Ricardo Antão. He continued his studies at the University of Aveiro, completing a Bachelor's Degree in Music – Performance (2021) and a Master's Degree in Music Education (2023). Since 2024, he has been enrolled in the Doctoral Program in Music at the same institution.
To deepen his musical knowledge and experience, he has participated in several masterclasses with some of the leading figures in euphonium and tuba, including Thomas Rüedi, Demondrae Thurman, Anthony Caillet, Fernando Deddos, Jukka Myllys, Sérgio Carolino, Gene Pokorny, François Thuillier, Daniel Perantoni, and Ricardo Carvalhoso, among others.
Diogo was a semifinalist in the 37th edition of the Prémios Jovens Músicos competition (Antena 2) and a finalist for the Yamaha Music Europe Foundation 2024/2025 Scholarships. He was also an award winner at the Terras de La Salette (2018), World Music Contest (2022, with the Wind Orchestra of the Academia de Música e Artes de Chaves), and AETYB Rafael Totajada (2024, Band/Orchestra category) competitions.
He has been a member of the Santa Maria da Feira Youth Symphony Orchestra and Band since 2024, and has also collaborated with the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra and the Portuguese Academic Philharmonic Orchestra.
In the realm of chamber music, he has been part of several ensembles. These include the BaixaRia Tuba Ensemble; the NoMad Duo Ensemble — part of the "A Jangada Metálica" project, supported by the Ministry of Culture, DGArtes, and Antena 2; and the Brass Quintet Revolution, formed as part of his research project, "The Versatility of the Euphonium in a Chamber Music Context."
Currently, alongside his doctoral studies, he serves as Pedagogical Director and teacher of the Orchestra, Euphonium, and Tuba classes at the Academia de Música Mell’Artes, and as a Tuba teacher at the Academia de Música de Paços de Brandão. He has also taught at the JOBRA Music Conservatory and Art’J as a substitute teacher, and participated as an instructor at the Mêda Summer Course (2024) and the Figueira da Foz Artistic Residency (2025).
