Gabriel Antão is since 2011 soloist trombone of the Tonkünstler orchestra (Austria) and has collaborated with several orchestras such as Wiener Philharmoniker, Wiener Staatsoper, Opernhaus Zürich, Hamburger Philharmoniker, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Wiener Volksoper, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Orchestra of Europe, Orchestra City of Granada and Porto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música.
At the chamber music level, he is member of the group Mr. SC and the Wildbones Gang and collaborated with ensembles such as Les Dissonances (Paris), RSBrass (Berlin) and PhilBlech (Vienna). Together with the pianist Pedro Costa participated in Cistermúsica – Alcobaça Music Festival and in the Póvoa de Varzim International Music Festival. He also performed concerts with trumpeter Konradin Groth and pianist Jonathan Alder.
He studied at the Aveiro Conservatory with Professor Luís Castro, pursuing studies at the Porto Superior School of Music and Arts (ESMAE) in the class of Professors Severo Martinez and David Silva, and later at the University of Arts in Berlin (Germany) – as a Fellow of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation – in the class of Professors Stefan Schulz, Andreas Klein and Rainer Vogt. Subsequently, he completed his PhD in Education and Interculturality, as well as Master in Management, both at the Open University of Lisbon. He is currently an associate researcher at the Center for Migration and Intercultural Relations (CEMRI).
Gabriel Antão was awarded with the Helena Sá e Costa Prize, the Emory Prize Remington (with the trombone class of the University of Berlin) the Porto Rotários Prize, 2nd Prize at the Young Musicians Prize, 1st Prize at the Competition Terras de La Salette and more recently the 1st Prize ex-aequo with the pianist Pedro Costa at the Interpretation Competition of Estoril.
He also performed as a soloist with Das Sinfonieorchester Berlin in Philharmonie of Berlin, the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra at the Largo Festival, the Chamber Orchestra of Cascais and Oeiras, the Sinfonietta Orchestra of ESMAE and the Aveiro Music Conservatory Symphonic Band.
