João Aibéo studied tuba with Philippe Legris, Sérgio Carolino, and Adélio Carneiro, and attended masterclasses with Anne Jelle Visser, Roger Bobo, Oren Marshall, Thierry Thibault, Øystein Baadsvik, Mark Steckar, François Thuillier, Thierry Grimont, Yvan Milhiet, Canadian Brass, Miraphone Tuba Quartet, Gene Pokorny, Philippe Legris, Walter Hilgers, and Steven Mead.

He was selected to participate in orchestral training programs such as the Inter-Conservatory Orchestra Courses in Paris (2001 and 2002) and the Metropolitana Symphony Orchestra Academy (2006).

During his time in Paris, he was a member of the Orchestre Symphonique de la Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris (CIUP), the Ensemble de Cuivres de Paris, and the Xeme Big Band. In Portugal, he has collaborated with several leading orchestras, including the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra (OCP), the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, and the Cascais and Oeiras Classical Orchestra, among others.

He is currently a member of the brass groups “Farra Fanfarra” and “MuriMuri,” through which he explores musical paths beyond the classical tradition.

In 2001, he won First Prize in Chamber Music (Higher Level) at the RDP Young Musicians Competition with the brass quintet Harmon Brass.

He has given numerous masterclasses in Portugal, both as an instrumental and sectional instructor, including at the Escola Profissional de Artes da Beira Interior, Banda Sinfónica da Covilhã, Festival Art&Cult, and the Porto Judeu Band Festival. More recently, he has been involved in two projects by the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra (OCP 0 and OCP 2). In 2014, he was invited by the OCP to serve as brass section tutor for the Portuguese Youth Orchestra (JOP), a role he has continued in subsequent editions. As a result of his work with the JOP, he was also invited to teach at the Junior Department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he worked in February 2014.

Also in 2014, he founded the Academic Orchestra of the University of Lisbon (OAUL), an orchestral initiative aimed at amateur musicians, which he has directed since its creation.

He wrote the script for an animated short film currently in production, directed by illustrator and filmmaker Tiago Albuquerque and produced by Animanostra.

He is currently a professor at the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho, the Academia de Música de Espinho, and the Orquestra Geração project, where he teaches instrument, sectional, and orchestral classes.
