Euphonium

Participated in the 2022 edition and participated as a “Young Talent” in the 2019 edition

João Carvalho began playing his first musical notes in the band of his hometown, Santa Marinha do Zêzere. He realized that music would be his calling and, as a result, enrolled at the Porto Conservatory of Music and, later, at EPABI (Beira Interior Professional School of Arts). He earned a bachelor’s degree in music from the ESML (Lisbon Higher School of Music) and later, seeking to refine and deepen his studies, enrolled at the Hochschule der Künste Bern, where he completed his master’s degree in musical performance with distinction and the highest grade of “Excellent” in Professor Thomas Ruedi’s class. Throughout his career, he has won several music competitions: First Prize in the 2nd “Terras de La Salette” National Wind Instrument Competition, Junior category; First Prize in the 1st “Terras de La Salette” International Wind Instrument Competition, Senior category. He is currently a member of the National Republican Guard Symphonic Band and is involved in other parallel musical projects.
