João Martinho is a Portuguese trombonist from Guimarães. He began his musical studies at the age of seven in the wind band of Caldas das Taipas, later enrolling at the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian de Braga, where he completed the 8th grade of trombone in 2009 under the guidance of Zeferino Pinto.
In the same year, he entered the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo, continuing his higher education in music. During this period, he was awarded the 1st Prize at the International Music Competition “Terras de La Salette” in 2009 (junior category), later receiving the same distinction in 2012 (senior category).
In 2013, he was awarded the 2nd Prize at the 27th edition of the Prémio Jovens Músicos, one of the most prestigious competitions for young musicians in Portugal.
He later pursued postgraduate studies at the Universität der Künste Berlin, where he studied under Professor Stefan Schulz, supported by a scholarship from the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. Based in Berlin, he continues to develop his artistic career internationally.
