Participated in the 2021 edition as a “Young Talent”
José Guilherme Neves, born on April 27, 2004, begun in 2012 to study Euphonium in the class of professor Daniel Marques, starting, in 2015, to study Tuba, with professor Gil Gonçalves. Currently, he frequents the Orfeão de Leiria Conservatory of Arts, in the class of professor Miguel Alves.
He plays in different groups, but he yet presents himself as a soloist in the SAMP – Sociedade Artística e Musical dos Pousos, invited by Director Alberto Roque and, in 2019, with the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras.
José Guilherme Neves has participated in various national and international contests. In 2015 he earned the 2nd place in the Euphonium Junior Category of the International Competition “Terras La Salette”. In 2016 he achieved the 1st place in the same contest, but the Tuba Junior Category, gaining the same award also next year. In 2019 he won the 1st APTE (Tuba and Euphonium Portuguese Association) competition and the “Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competiton” in Brussels, where he also played in the Concert of the Laureate Musician at Studio Recital Hall Bozar – Centre for Fine Arts.
He has been attended several Master Classes with professors Adélio Carneiro, Stephane
Labeyrie, Eduardo Nogueroles, Luís Oliveira, Perry Hoogendijk, among others. He also has participated 2017, 2018 and 2019 Gravíssimo Festival Editions, with the Artistic Direction of Sérgio Carolino e Hugo Assunção and where he attended classes and conferences with Gene Pokorny, Anne Jelle Visser, Shimpei Tsugita, Daniel Perantoni, Mike Forbes e Oren Marshall.
In 2019 he has been chosen for the RCO Young 1st Edition at Concertgebouw, working with the directors Jim Ross and Pablo Heras-Casado and playing with the ECO Young Orchestra at Concertgebouw and Flagey Concert Hall in Brussels.
