A native of Chelva (Spain), José Martínez began his musical training at the Regional Music School in his hometown. Later, the influence of Sergio Finca, his studies with Ramiro Tejero, and his participation in the Spanish Brass Academy were crucial to improving and strengthening his musical skills. Training residencies in Sweden (University of Gothenburg) and the United States (Boston University, Chicago Negaunee Music Institute, New York Philharmonic Global Academy, and the University of Redlands) were immensely beneficial to his professional development. A passionate orchestral musician, Martinez was a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Academy, where he performed regularly with the Chicago Civic Orchestra under the guidance of Gene Pokorny, a key mentor in his development. Other engagements include performances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra (Symphonic and Pops), the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Jalisco Philharmonic, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Naples Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the New World Symphony, the Porto Symphony Orchestra, the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, and World Brass. Jose Martínez is currently completing a Ph.D. in music at Boston University under the guidance of Mike Roylance, his most important musical and personal mentor since 2011, when he performed with the Spanish National Orchestra, brassONEquintet, and the duo 2Arts!.
