Trombone

Multi award-winning jazz trombonist Mark Nightingale is a firmly established favourite of the UK jazz scene and as one of the top-flight jazz trombonists worldwide.

Emerging onto the scene with his debut album Bone Structure in 1988, his first solo album What I Wanted to Say was recorded in New York with Ray Brown, Dado Moroni and Jeff Hamilton. Swiftly followed by Destiny with the RIAS Big Band in Berlin, this established him as a major new jazz trombone voice. Gravíssimo! fans may well also know his jazz funk album Out Of The Box.

A regular at ITA Festivals globally and also with ensembles across Europe, in the UK he has had long-standing musical associations with John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, Kenny Wheeler and Alan Barnes whilst appearing as a sideman on over 200 albums. Mark has appeared on albums with jazz legends including Clark Terry, James Morrison and Scott Hamilton, and live with Urbie Green, Conte Candoli and Bill Holman. He has worked with musical icons as diverse as Frank Sinatra, The LSO, Steeley Dan, Henry Mancini, Al Jarreau, Charlie Watts, Peggy Lee and Sting. As a first call studio musician he has also recorded hundreds of movie and video game soundtracks.

Mark is known for composing pieces used by all the major music exam boards. His writing skills are in demand from groups far and wide. Mark also fronts his own various small groups and big band, which showcase original compositions and arrangements alongside his playing.
