A Portuguese bass trombonist, he is currently a Bach Artist and soloist with the Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra. He also teaches at the Porto School of Arts and Performing Arts (ESMAE). He studied at the Vale do Ave Professional School of the Arts (ARTAVE) in Santo Tirso and at the School of Music, Arts, and Performing Arts (ESMAE) in Porto. He furthered his musical knowledge by attending masterclasses with internationally renowned teachers such as Stefan Loyer, David Bruchez, Stefan Schulz, Jim Self, Sérgio Carolino, Jon Etterbeek, Peter Erikson, Severo Martinez, Gene Pokorny, and Stefan Geiger, among others. Since 2006, following a European audition, he has been invited to join the Gustav Mahler Orchestra and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Academy, where he had the opportunity to work with conductors Claudio Abbado, Philip Jordan, Lawrence Foster, Christoph Enchenbach, Christoph Van Donany, and Thomas Hengelbrock. Nuno has collaborated regularly with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Porto, the Filarmonia das Beiras, the Lisbon Sinfonietta, the Remix-Ensemble Casa da Música, the Galician Symphony Orchestra (Spain), the Madeira Classical Orchestra, the Algarve Classical Orchestra, and the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra of the São Carlos National Theater. Throughout his career, he has performed all over the world, playing with a wide variety of projects, giving recitals, and conducting masterclasses. Portugal, Scotland, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the U.S., France, Spain, Germany, South Africa, and Brazil were among those countries. In the summer of 2011, he made the European premiere of the work FREYJA for bass trombone and symphony orchestra by composer Cláudio Moreira with the Landesjugendorchester Bremen under the direction of conductor Stefan Geiger, recording a live DVD at the Guilhermina Suggia Hall at Casa da Música. He is a member of the projects Massive Brass Attack!, Mr. SC & The Wild Bones Gang, T’NT, and Duo Subwoofer (with Sérgio Carolino), and is also the founder of the SURREAL project with Bruno Costa (percussion).
