Nuno Ventura de Sousa was born in Porto in July 1996. He began his piano studies in Maria José Souza Guedes’s class at the Porto Conservatory of Music. He was accepted into the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and the University of North Texas, choosing the latter to continue his studies with Vladimir Viardo, winner of the Van Cliburn Competition and a student of Lev Naumov. After graduating from the University of North Texas in 2017, he is currently pursuing a master’s degree in performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under the renowned professor Jan Jiracek von Arnim.

Nuno Ventura de Sousa has won more than fifty awards (including nearly 40 first prizes) in national and international competitions in Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro, and the United States, notably the first prize at the Santa Cecília Competition (Porto), first prize at the Antón García Abril Competition (Teruel), and first prize at the “Manja” International Competition (Montenegro), as well as second prize at the César Franck Competition (Belgium) and a tied second prize at the Manhattan Competition (New York). He also won the CMP/Casa da Música Prize, the CMP/Orquestra do Norte Prize, the BPI Scholarship (Portugal), and the Isabel Scionti Scholarship (U.S.).

Nuno Ventura de Sousa has performed in numerous recitals at various venues in Portugal, Europe, the U.S., and Japan. Notable among these were the opening concerts of the 2016 and 2019 EDP Piano Series at Casa da Música in Porto, and his recitals at the Engenheiro António de Almeida Foundation. He has participated in masterclasses led by renowned teachers such as Dmitri Bashkirov, Arie Vardi, Andrei Diev, Alexander Tutunov, Nikolai Medvedev, Leonel Morales, and Logan Skelton. He has also received guidance from Gabriel Sanchez, Artur Pizarro, Lovro Pogorelich, and Boris Kraljevic.
