He made his debut with the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra on October 25, 2000, in a program that included Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, but he considers his most memorable experience with the orchestra to have been Giacomo Puccini’s opera Turandot, conducted by Zoltán Peskó.

He began his musical training at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory in Braga and continued his studies at the Professional School of Music in Espinho, the National Superior Academy of Orchestra, and the Lisbon Higher School of Music. Throughout his career, he has been strongly influenced by his grandfather Francisco Guilherme and by musicians such as Miquel Bernat, Jean-François Lézé, Carlos Voss, and Rui Sul Gomes. He has been a professor at the National Superior Orchestra Academy since 2008.
