Phantasmagoria

Phantasmagoria Ensemble is a Tuba and Saxophone chamber group, composed by the musicians Tiago Santos and Hélder Alves. Their goal and challenge is to experience the fusion of the timbric differences of the two instruments, transporting them to a different field with many combinatory possibilities.

Besides the repertoire specifically created for this duo, where the works of composers Rodrigo Lopes and Matthew Orlovich stand out, the Phantasmagoria Ensemble intends to stimulate Portuguese composers to write for this formation, thus creating a different path in the Portuguese chamber music scene, and to enhance the intercultural development of the repertoire, creating exchanges with international composers interested in developing the repertoire for this formation. The duo also aims to combine the characteristic of some national influences from various countries and adapt them to this formation (Fado, Samba, Tango, Mornas, etc.) and to transcribe some works of other instruments, aiming to show the chamber possibilities of this formation.

This ensemble already has some important presences in the context of the instruments in question, namely the Festival Internacional de Saxofone de Palmela and the Festival da Associação Portuguesa de Tubas e Eufónios.
