Ricardo Pereira was born in Braga and began his musical studies with his father, António Pereira. He has built a career as a trombonist and educator, distinguishing himself both nationally and internationally. His formal studies began at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music in Braga, where he was mentored by Zeferino Pinto. He graduated in 2006 with the highest honors, winning the Artistic Merit Award. He continued his training at the Porto School of Music, Arts, and Performing Arts under the guidance of Severo Martinez, completing his bachelor’s degree in Music in 2009, also with the highest honors.

He continued his academic training with a master’s degree in Music Education at the University of Minho (2011–2013) and, in 2020, earned the title of Specialist in Music from the Lisbon Polytechnic Institute. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Arts Education at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto, deepening his pedagogical and artistic knowledge.

Throughout his career, Ricardo Pereira has had the privilege of studying with various international masters and soloists, such as Jacques Mauger, Jon Etterbeek, Petur Eiriksson, Gyorgy Gyivicsan, Vincenzo Paratore, Stefan Schulz, Otmar Gaiswinkler, Andrea Conti, Charles Vernon, Mark Hampson, Andreas Klein, Achilles Liarmakopoulos, Jesper Busk Sørensen, Toby Oft, Bart Claessens, and Massimo La Rosa, among others, enriching his musical approach. He has been recognized with several awards, including first prize at the 16th Chieri International Competition (2016), the RDP-RTP Young Musicians Award (2013), and the 2nd Terras de La Salette National Competition (2009), as well as second prize at the 9th SBALZ Festival International Composition Competition (2022).

Since 2014, he has been the principal trombonist with the Remix Ensemble Casa da Música, having previously held the same position with the Orquestra do Norte. He has also collaborated with renowned orchestras such as the Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Galician Symphony Orchestra, and the Klangforum Wien. He has also been a member of international ensembles and orchestra academies—the European Union Wind Orchestra, the Orquesta Joven de la Sinfónica de Galicia, the International Mahler Orchestra, The World Orchestra, and the Lucerne Festival Academy—performing concerts throughout Europe.

As a soloist, he has performed with prestigious ensembles, including the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Chieri Sinfonietta Orchestra (Italy), the Portuguese Symphonic Band, and the Orchestra of the Viana do Castelo Professional School of Music.

In the field of education, he teaches trombone at the Lisbon Higher School of Music, contributing to the guidance and training of new musicians. He is regularly invited to lead workshops, masterclasses, and lectures, and to serve as a judge in prestigious competitions.

In addition to his performing career, Ricardo Pereira is also a composer. In 2020, he released his debut album, IMPROBABILE, in collaboration with harpist Erica Versace. He is sponsored by the Greenhoe trombone brand.
