Rui Pedro Reis Lopes Bandeira was born in Vilarandelo, Valpaços, in 1987. He began his musical studies at age 9, learning piano and guitar at the Osnabrück School under Professor Francisco d’Outel. At age 11, he began learning the flugelhorn with the Vilarandelo Philharmonic Band. At age 14, he enrolled at the Orfeão de Ovar Music Academy, studying trombone in Professor Rui Pedro Alves’s class. At age 16, he enrolled at the Espinho Professional School of Music, where he successfully completed his studies in Professor Alexandre Vilela’s class. He attended the Higher School of Music and Performing Arts in Porto, studying jazz trombone under Professors Lars Arens and Paulo Perfeito. He is a member of the European Movement Jazz Orchestra, Mr. SC and Wild Bones, Big Band Estarrejazz, Funky Bones Factory, New Sketch, Souq, Fanfarra Kaustika, the Porto Jazz Orchestra, R’B & Mr. SC, and L.A. Banda Larga. He collaborates with various jazz orchestras, including the Hot Club de Portugal Big Band. He has collaborated with the Guimarães Foundation Orchestra, the Beiras Philharmonic Orchestra, the Algarve Orchestra, and the Coimbra Classical Orchestra. As a freelancer, he is constantly moving between jazz, classical, and pop.
