Shimpei Tsugita

Shimpei Tsugita Shimpei Tsugita was born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1979. He graduated at the top of his class from Kyoto City University of Arts after attending Kyoto Municipal High School of Music (now Kyoto Horikawa Conservatory of Music), receiving both the Faculty of Music Award and the Kyoto Music Association Award.
He first gained national recognition by winning First Prize at the 24th Japan Wind and Percussion Competition with a unanimous decision. Tsugita was a member of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra until March 2008, after which he joined the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra as a tuba player.
As a soloist, he has performed tuba concertos with both the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. Internationally, he has appeared as a guest artist at major festivals and conferences in Linz (Austria), Indiana and Tennessee (USA), and at the international low brass festival Gravíssimo! in Portugal, where he has presented concerts and masterclasses.
In 2015, he toured Japan with renowned tubist Sérgio Carolino, performing duo concerts. A live recording from their Tokyo performance was released by Octavia Records as Yamaha Tuba Duo / Super Live!.
Tsugita is an active chamber musician and a member of several ensembles, including Samurai Brass, ARK BRASS, Yamaha Tuba Duo, Wor-heri, The Tuba Band, and Trio Pecorino. He has participated in numerous CD recordings and is also highly sought after as a studio musician, contributing to recordings for films, television dramas, animation, and video games.
His discography includes the DVD Tuba Master and CDs such as TuBest! and Mr. Tuba!.
He studied tuba with Mitsuyoshi Kashima, Shigeo Takesada, Daniel Perantoni, and Roger Bobo. In addition to his performing career, Tsugita is deeply committed to education, serving as Associate Professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and also teaching at Showa University of Music and Shobi College of Music.
