Sofia Moody began her musical studies at age 4, learning piano. At age 6, she began studying harp at the National Conservatory, and a year later returned to the piano. At age 10, she decided to switch to percussion, taking private lessons with Elizabeth Davis and, later, studying with Tatiana Martins and Fábio Dias at the Metropolitan Music Conservatory. In 2012, she enrolled at the Metropolitan Professional School, where she studied for one year with Marco Fernandes, Miguel Herrera, João Carlos Pacheco, and Andreu Rico, and completed the rest of her program in tuba with Henrique Costa and Adélio Carneiro. She began her bachelor’s degree at the National Superior Orchestra Academy with Adélio Carneiro in 2016.

He has attended various masterclasses throughout his training, notably with Pedro Carneiro, Peter Vulperhorst, Jeffrey Davis, and John Psathas, among others (percussion), and Daniel Perantoni, Alfonso Molla, Andreas Hofmeir, Anne Jelle Visser, Stephane Labeyrie, and Alessandro Fossi (tuba).

He won second prize in the Senior Tuba category at the 2016 Terras de La Salette competition and placed second in the Tuba, Advanced Level category of the 2017 Young Musicians Award.
