Sofia Moody

Sofia Moody is a Portuguese tuba player. In 2019, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Orchestra from the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra, studying under Adélio Carneiro; during this time, Sofia was a regular guest tuba player with the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa.

To continue her tuba studies, Sofia moved to Zurich, Switzerland, where she completed a Master’s in Music Performance and a Master’s in Specialized Orchestra Performance with Anne Jelle Visser. For the first degree, Sofia received a full scholarship from the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.

As a requirement of the Specialized Orchestra Master’s program, Sofia completed an internship with the Philharmonia Zürich—the orchestra of the Zurich Opera House—with which she has continued to perform occasionally as a guest tuba player since the end of her internship.

During her musical studies, Sofia participated in numerous masterclasses and orchestra/wind band internships. In 2018, she was selected to participate in the Symphonic Session of the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra.
