He began playing the trumpet at age 10, which led him to pursue a career as an instrument maker. After graduating from technical school, he began an apprenticeship at a repair shop, completed his certification, and subsequently worked at various repair shops and companies. In 1981, he moved to Munich to work at the “Ganter” factory, which specialized in trumpets, French horns, and trombones. At the same time, he pursued additional training to earn his master craftsman’s certification. He then moved to Melton/Meinl Weston in Geretsried, near Munich. There, he worked on special projects for the tuba and tuba development. He worked as a master craftsman on custom instruments for artists, as well as in tuba production. In 1991, he joined Yamaha as a research and development specialist. He was responsible for all wind instruments, specializing in custom adjustments for Yamaha musicians and artists. There, he established a global network of musicians and other technicians to develop the next generation of wind instruments for Yamaha.
