Tubax Duo

Sérgio Carolino › Tuba | Mário Marques › Saxophone
The result of a partnership that began in 1986, TUBAX Duo emerged from an ongoing interaction and exchange of musical experiences that two close friends decided to bring to life.
In fact, Sérgio Carolino and Mário Marques complement each other in various musical projects such as The Postcard Brass and TUBAX Septet, among others. However, TUBAX Duo is the project that brings together their friendship and musical talent in a partnership forged over many years.
With the goal of exploring the unique characteristics and musical challenges involved in performing as a duo with two melodic instruments, TUBAX Duo brings together the possibilities of musical collaboration between Mário Marques’s saxophone and Sérgio Carolino’s tuba, without restrictions on genre or musical form.
Works by composers such as Howie Smith, Petri Keskitalo, Jon Hansen, and Jeremie Dufort, along with arrangements of pieces by John Zorn and Ennio Morricone, form the basis of the duo’s first album.
